The Hellman Park area of the Preserve features expansive panoramic views of the region and is well known for its strenuous uphill climb on Peppergrass Trail. Mariposa Trail, a hiking footpath that provides canyon views and occasional shade, branches off of Peppergrass Trail mid-slope before eventually reconnecting. While bikes are not allowed at this trailhead, the connecting area contains several old roads that are heavily used as recreational trails, particularly by mountain bikers, as part of a loop through Turnbull Canyon. Many of these roads lead off of the Preserve into Rose Hills Memorial Park (private property) or connect to Schabarum Trail (managed by Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation). Please click here for a printable map of trails in the area, and their allowable uses.
The main access point for the Hellman Park trail network is via a gated trailhead on Greenleaf Avenue which leads to Peppergrass Trail. A restroom is available at the trailhead and parking can be found offsite (please park OUTSIDE of city restricted parking areas, which are indicated on this map). Please bring your own water.
